Healthy Essentials presents LA FAMILIA DE HOY™: La Familia Jiménez

Last year in December we were looking for that particular spokes family for #LaFamiliaDeHoy to represent Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies. Of all the families, three were in the final round and the chosen spokes family became the Jiménez family as La Familia de Hoy.

En diciembre, Johnson & Johnson Family of Consumer Companies nos reveló a la familia Jiménez como LA FAMILIA DE HOY™. Juan, Biviana y sus tres hijos: Elisa, Diego y Benicio, son una familia moderna, activa y multicultural, representante de todos los valores de los hispanos.

The Jimenez family is part of a larger family almost as large as my family: The Jimenez brothers are 4, 3 wives, 8 children and one grandmother. The three married brothers live right next to each other with connecting backyards and the fourth brother lives close by. The grandmother is right there with them, living in the house with Juan and his family where she raised her children. This family reminded me of my dad's family that all lived on the family land. Each member has their own titled land and all lived in the same block.

La familia Jiménez forma parte de una familia numerosa: Los hermanos Jiménez son 4, 3 esposas, 8 hijos y una abuela. Los 3 hermanos casados viven uno al lado del otro con patios conectando las casas y el cuarto hermano vive cerca de ellos. La abuela está allí con ellos, viviendo en la casa con Juan y su familia donde crió a sus hijos. Esta familia me recordó de la familia de mi papá que todos viven de la tierra familiar. Cada miembro tiene su propia tierra titulada y todas viven en la misma cuadra.

As most family, the Jimenez Family shares a special bond. They are constantly looking out for each other, whether is babysitting each other’s children, attending family gatherings on special occasions, getting together for weekend BBQ’s or going to Juan’s boys’ soccer games. Their commitment in life is to pass on their traditional values and Hispanic roots in the younger generation. This bonding is where I miss my family and wish they lived in the same state with us. The medium of communication and technology helps a great deal. This can never take the place of having the family nearby but we do meet other families and create a bond with them, that which makes a great difference in our lives and they become our extended family.

Como cualguier familia, la familia Jiménez comparte un vínculo especial. Están constantemente apoyándose los unos a los otros, ya sea cuidando a los niños de cada uno, asistiendo a reuniones familiares en ocasiones especiales, juntándose para barbacoas los fines de semana o yendo a los partidos de futbol de los hijos de Juan. Su compromiso en esta vida es inculcar a la generación más joven, los valores tradicionales y sus raíces Latinas. Esta vinculación es donde echo de menos a mi familia y lamento que no viven en el mismo estado cerca a nosotros. El medio de comunicación y tecnología ayuda mucho.  Esto nunca puede tomar el lugar de tener a la familia cerca pero al conocer a otras familias y crear un vínculo con ellos, hace una gran diferencia en nuestras vidas. Y se convierten en nuestra familia ampliada.

Sharing Mexican and Colombian backgrounds, Juan is always making sure his children grow up learning and absorbing all the obtainable knowledge from their mom and grandma, in order to make the right choices when reaching their adult life, as well as keep taking care of each other as a family.  The means of communication sure makes learning and sharing knowledge possible as we share recipes, ideas and medicinal tips. Technology helps that bonding upon hearing grandma's voice and seeing that beautiful smile when you need it most.
